Living Wages and Incomes; Collaboration is Key!
Awareness on living wages and living incomes in global supply chains has increased in the last couple of years, and the members of the PLWF have tracked and benchmarked the strategies and actions of their investees for five years now. Having emphasized the need to move from policies to action in the last five years, it has become increasingly clear that one of the most crucial enabler for achieving living wages is collaboration – collaboration between brands sourcing from the same factories to ensure the effectiveness of their measures; collaboration between brands and suppliers to ensure responsible purchasing practices; but also collaboration between suppliers to make their concerns heard. NGOs and unions can be crucial to facilitate such collaboration to make progress on the number of workers receiving a living wage or living income both in the garment and the food and agricultural sector.
To illustrate this, the PLWF will host its 6th annual conference, share the results of the annual assessments and engagements, and have inspiring discussion with each other on the importance of collaboration in making progress on the work on living wages and living incomes. As in recent years, the PWLF conference will be attended by investors, brands and civil society organizations making this a great opportunity to network and brainstorm.
